I have always been fascinated with the idea of the human having replicas of itself in various forms i.e. mannequins, puppets, dolls, statues etc.

Dolls and statues in particular are represented over many centuries. Statues representing a reminder of the person's achievement. Dolls represented in various formats, from being used in magic and sacrifice to a child's plaything! Puppets from providing a visualisation of a story to mannequins displaying clothing.

The paintings represent vulnerability & fragility of human nature and the 'artificial' figures perfectly act this out.
